QueueMan the Open Source Netflix queue management tool for Android Devices

QueueMan aims to be the Open Source Android application for Netflix subscribers. And it has already gotten some great reviews.

Netflix application for Android devices (G1, Droid, Eris, others)

Netflix application for Android devices (Nexus One, G1, Droid, Eris, others)

Isn’t it adorable!

Features

  • View current Disc and Instant queues
  • Search Netflix catalog and Add new movies to Instant and DVD Queues
  • Re-order or delete existing movies
  • View movie details (Year, rating, Synopsis, etc)

Hot Announcement!

11/11/09 – QueueMan told me how it was, and he wants to be an open source droid. Well as a lowly developer I am in no position to argue.  Please checkout QueueMan’s new home on Google Project Hosting.

QueueMan is now licensed under the GPL version 3.

QueueMan is a Beta Release

I think I have done a decent job of eliminating most bugs, but testing on an emulator and one developer device is hardly thorough, so your testing and development contributions are greatly appreciated!

QueueMan wants to be your tool of choice for managing your Netflix Queue.   Users of Roku and XBox to watch instant movies will appreciate the ability to add movies to your instant Queue right form the couch! Conventional home delivery users will appreciate the ability to hold off that drab documentary and add a peppy holiday film to the top of your Queue.

Best of all, everyone should appreciate his new Open Source swagger, he knows that with the free collaboration this provides he’ll be king of the hill in no time.

    Doesn’t Netflix already have an application for Android devices??

    Does this one offer streaming video’s as well?

    @Mike
    Great question. Netflix has officially released an app for Nokia phones, but does not yet offer one for Android.

    The link you included points to a thread that was an open inquiry. The only (existing) android application referenced is the very same as QueueMan. I posted a link there to help users find my open source offering.

    You can also see QueueMan in the Netflix App Gallery;

    and streaming?

    @Mike – sorry.
    QueueMan does not *currently* support that. I am still working to understand what formats Netflix offers instant videos up as.

    But as this is an open source project I really hope that people smarter than me will help expand functionality in this area. If you have experiences with codecs and streaming feeds I would love the help!

    Any chance you can provide a direct link to the Netflix app. I have an Archos A5S which runs Android and unfortunately doesn’t come with the Android Market or a built in cam to use the scanner app. The only way to get apps on it currently is directly downloading/install them or through their app marketplace (AppLibs). If a direct download isn’t possible, any chance you are willing to submit the app to their AppLibs program (www.applibs.com)?

    @Tony
    Thanks for you interest.
    Although the source code is publicly available, I have not tested it on any devices like the A5S…perhaps you can assist me there. On a side note I am looking for more information or reasoning behind the move to strip Android Market from some distributions. Seems to just segment a device population, making it more difficult for developers to reach users.

    Seems to be a problem with my Motorola Droid running 2.1. When I try to add a title to my queue at the bottom, I get an error (with nothing after the Error code).

    Update: I have rolledback the Market version to 0.9.9.1 which should eliminate this issue for all users.

    Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately you are not the first to report this. It seems to be a recent error that is occurring as a result of QueueMan’s success.

    The number of user requests may be exceeding Netflix’s API limits, and I am actively working with them to address this.

    Meanwhile please provide details to help me here:
    http://code.google.com/p/queueman/issues/detail?id=65

    And please continue to share feedback! (positive or negative) I can not respond to market comments, but appreciate direct mail, comments here, or comments on the code site inked above, as these are much more interactive discussions.
